Give a Little Bit campaign reaches goal of 150,000 service hours
Chapman University students pulled weeds, planted gardens, stocked food bank shelves, swept floors, painted blacktop games onto school playgrounds, mended books, made bookmarks and volunteered at a children’s museum.
And that’s just to name a few of the many projects they undertook to help the university’s Give a Little Bit Campaign meet its goal of 150,000 hours of service served in honor of Chapman University’s 150th Anniversary. The final push to meet the campaign goal came during the Nov. 19 Day of Service sponsored by the Department of Student and Campus Life.
There was never any doubt that the goal would be met, said Justin Koppelman, program coordinator for the Department of Student and Campus Life.
“We were well aware of the number of students, faculty and staff who were doing community service,” Koppelman said. But the number of hours had never been tallied. So they created the 150,000 hours challenge in connection with the 150th Anniversary. Now they plan to make the Give a Little Bit project an ongoing program.
