The latest earthquake research of Dimitar Ouzounov, Ph.D., associate professor, School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Schmid College of Science, was featured in an article on LiveScience, a science news website partnered with MSNBC.com, Yahoo!, the Christian Science Monitor and others.
Using satellite data, Dr. Ouzounov and colleagues discovered that electrons in the ionosphere increased in the days before the earthquake, as did infrared radiation. Although earthquake forecasting is still “far away,” Dr. Ouzounov said the research raises interesting possibilities.
