Chapman University’s Guitar Ensembles have won several honors at the highly competitive University of Texas, Brownsville, Guitar Ensemble Competition, including first place in the category of guitar trio.

The first-place trio includes students Adam Borecki, Charlie Lopez and Kira Roden. Placing second in the duo category was Roden and Lopez.  Placing third out of a total of nine universities competing in the quartet category were Roden, Borecki, Tarah Dang and Henry Allen.

The festival, produced as a partnership between the Brownsville Society for the Performing Arts and the University of Texas, Brownsville has become a mainstay of the national classical guitar community. In its 10-year history, guitar groups have come to Brownsville to participate from more than 40 cities from across the United States and Mexico.

Today the quartet is scheduled to perform for the The Romeros, an acclaimed family of classical guitar musicians, in a master class at the festival, says Jeff Cogan, associate professor, director of guitar studies and music technology, College of Performing Arts.

“This should be fantastic!” Cogan says.
