Wachs conducts Monterey Symphony Youth Concerts

March 28, 2011

Daniel Wachs

Daniel Alfred Wachs, assistant professor, Conservatory of Music, College of Performing Arts, co-wrote and conducted a special musical program for young listeners at the Monterey Symphony’s 37th Annual Youth Concerts, held March 10 and 11.

The program, titled “The Case of the Missing Pipe(s?),” included dancers, a narrator and even an actor playing Sherlock Holmes, who helped unlock the mysteries of an orchestra by taking the children back to the time of Johann Sebastian Bach.

A unique element of the program was the use of a historic Wurlitzer organ at the Steinbeck Institute of Art and Culture in Salinas, where the concerts were held. To read a news feature about the event, visit the Californian.com.
