Michael Scheuer, the author of the bestselling Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terrorism, will speak at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in Sandhu Conference Center.

Scheuer, whose visit is sponsored by the Center for Global Education, was the chief of the CIA’s bin Laden unit from 1996 to 1999 and remained a counter-terrorism analyst until 2004. Scheuer has been featured extensively on television, including 60 Minutes and Frontline and has been the focus of print media worldwide.

Osama bin Laden was and remains America’s most formidable and implacable enemy. Available biographies depict him as crazed and marginal-or simply as a gangster, fanatic, or nihilist. These accounts, Scheuer believes, have contributed to a widespread and dangerous denial of his impact and significance. Scheuer provides a different view of bin Laden that shows him to be a man of remarkable leadership skills, strategic genius, and considerable rhetorical abilities.

This event is co-sponsored by the World Affairs Council of Orange County.
