Paramount snags Chapman screenwriter’s new film

January 26, 2011

"Like Crazy" stars Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones.

A romantic indie feature wowing audiences at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and co-written by Chapman University alumnus Ben York Jones ’07 has reportedly been bought by Paramount Pictures for $4 million.

The marathon bidding battle for Like Crazy is described in Entertainment Weekly’s online publication Jones told OCWeekly, which is publishing the filmmaker’s blog posts from Sundance that “I don’t think anyone here with the film has gotten more than an hour or two of sleep in the past 36 hours.”

Like Crazy was co-written by Jones’ long-time friend Drake Doremus, who also wrote Douchebag, the dramedy road trip film that starred Jones and was another Sundance hit last year. In a recent story about the film, Los Angeles Times film critic Kenneth Turan praised the work as “impeccable.”

A number of other Dodge College alumni are at this year’s Sundance. Check out the list at the Dodge College Blog.
