Kotkin pens Newsweek cover story

November 16, 2010

Looking for signs of recovery from the Great Recession? Head to the American heartland, says Chapman Presidential Fellow Joel Kotkin, who wrote the cover story titled “Greetings from Recoveryland” in the current issue of Newsweek magazine.

“Like a massive tornado, the Great Recession upended the topography of America,” Kotkin writes. “But even as vast parts of the country were laid low, some cities withstood the storm and could emerge even stronger and shiner than before.”

He touts “Oz-like destinations” such as Oklahoma, Texas and Iowa as the places to go to escape the economic fallout.

“Who’s to say Oklahoma City can’t be Oz?” Kotkin concludes.

It may be a rhetorical question.
