A summer of Shakespeare

July 13, 2010

Want to catch some great Chapman theatre alumni in action?  Tom Bradac, Chapman professor of theatre and co-founder with Michael Nehring  of the acclaimed Shakespeare Orange County – OC’s professional Shakespeare company – invites you to attend the company’s production of Two Gentlemen of Verona, which opens this Thursday,  July 15, and runs through July 31.

Tom tells us, “The lovers are fabulous, the clowns are not to miss, the dog hits his marks — and Thursday you can name your own ticket price! SOC under the stars in July … there is no better deal around for an evening of artistic entertainment.”  Yup, every Thursday is “Pay What You Will” Night – so you can pony up what you can afford or what you figure great Shakespeare is worth!

Chapman alumnae Amanda Zarr ’04 and Kim Blair Shively ’00 play the female leads in this fast, funny production of the Bard’s classic comedy.

And as in summers past, Kent Lehnhof, Ph.D., associate professor,  of the Chapman English Department will give free lectures before selected shows. The lectures for Two Gents begin at 7 p.m. on the amphitheater patio and are scheduled for July 24 and 31.

So what’s better than Shakespeare outdoors on a summer’s eve?  Not much, in our book.  Evening performances begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Festival Amphitheatre, 12740 Main Street, Garden Grove.  More info at www.shakespeareoc.org.
